One theme in Stupid Fast is that you should never doubt yourself, if you want something you have to go get it even if it doesn't seem possible at that time. Felton never thought that he could be big and become a jock and a football player in one summer. He was noticed for his speed in gym class when he was running around the track. The football coached wanted him to play football so he agreed to play and he began to do summer weight lifting with the team. Also doing occasional passing routes. This was very foreign to Felton, but the fire in his stomach to beat Ken Johnson and to prove to everyone that he's not a squirrel nut and the fire in his stomach to do better goes up more and more everyday. He starts getting bigger, faster, strronger and also becoming a D-1 prospect, he starts proving everyone wrong about what they thought about him in milddle school and in his first year in high school. Felton is determined to prove everyone wrong and hes making a big statement doing it.
Another theme in Stupid Fast is that if you have confidence and you work on what you want to do, you can stand up for yourself and not back down. In the beginning Felton had no friends and it seemed like he was going to be a nobody for the rest of his life. Then he was given to oppurtunity to play football after he was noticed for his unique speed. When he started playing football and lifting and becoming a prospect and his body started to change, his confidence also changed. He became more confident when it came to talking to girls and being more comfortable around them and not acting like a total moron. When he gets the oppurtunity to go against some bully in a football drill, he takes complete advantage of it and shows who the real new football player was and that no one should be messing with him.
